As a gamer and someone who talks to other gamers, the question of ‘What’s your favourite game’ frequently arises, to which my answer, more often than not these days is Don’t Starve. Now many people are surprised by this and many others haven’t even heard of this amazing game, which is maybe partly why it is my continued favourite game.

Don’t Starve is a perma-death survival adventure game. You pick from an array of fun and unique characters, each with their own perks and pitfalls, and then enter a randomly generated world in which you have to survive, and as the name suggests, Don’t Starve. Like most survival games, you collect resources, build tools and create bases but unlike most games Don’t Starve doesn’t tool tip you to success. There’s a plethora of enemies to defeat, game mechanics to balance and fun surprises to keep you entertained for a long, long time.
It combines challenge with adventure, peril with discovery and excitement with achievement all things which I think most games lack, at least as a whole set of attributes.
Why Don't Starve Is My Favourite Game
Don’t Starve doesn’t hold your hand, it lets you figure out the game for yourself which leads to a sense of achievement and satisfaction that I have never had from any other game. The ever-present dangers that can end your playthrough at any moment give the player an ‘edge of your seat’ quality which again only certain games (generally horror games) can boast.
I have always enjoyed survival games and especially ones that have a bit of quirk to them, Don’t Starve has quirk in abundance, from the amazingly pleasing yet simple art style to the adorable and witty characters
Don’t Starve is in my opinion a masterpiece of a game.I have played it many, many times and I constantly come back to it, it has a permanent place in my gaming library. Don’t Starve is the one game I can rely on to always be there when I need something to play and always give me new challenges every time I play it. It’s definitely a bright spot in an all too often dark gaming world of remasters and rehashing.
So thank you Klei for producing such a wonderful game.
