You need to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Once you have one of these subscriptions follow these instructions:

Navigate to the Xbox Store from the Xbox Home Screen

Select ‘Subscriptions’ and choose Xbox Games with Gold

Scroll down the page to find ‘Free Play Days’ section and install the free games from here.
